The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) states that its mission is to inspire, inform and enable the nations of the world to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
Their 2008 Report: Green Jobs: Towards Decent Work in a Sustainable, Low-Carbon World contends, among other points, that:
the global transition to a low-carbon and sustainable economy can create large numbers of green jobs across many sectors of the economy, and indeed can become an engine of development.
The report, which was produced for UNEP by the Worldwatch Institute, is available for download here.
